Several charges after Bobcat takes on cop cars

-

City police dealt with a hit and run involving a wild cat on Sunday, but the good news is no humans — or animals — were injured in the incident.

At about 9 p.m., members of the Medicine Hat Police Service responded to a report of a Bobcat excavator heading south on Dunmore Road.

Reports included information about the driver of the Bobcat intentionally ramming a City of Medicine Hat Fire Service vehicle and then continuing south.

A marked police patrol vehicle attempted to stop the Bobcat, which was travelling at about three or five mph, and was also deliberately struck with the excavator’s forks.

More police units attempted to stop the vehicle before the machine was finally stopped and the driver was taken into custody.

Neither the accused, nor members of fire service or police were injured as a result of the incident but there was extensive property damage.

The accused was also reported to have been uttering threats earlier in the evening, in an unrelated matter. He was subsequently charged with uttering threats and breach of court order.

As for the hit and run itself, the 24-year-old local male is in custody awaiting a judicial interim release hearing. He is charged with dangerous driving, being impaired, failing to stop at the scene of an accident, flight from police, assault with a weapon, breach of probation, breach of undertaking, possession of stolen property, theft of more than $5,000 and uttering threats.
