Adam Herold leadership camp hits Maple Creek this weekend

Adam Herold’s legacy will stretch into Maple Creek this weekend.

The Adam Herold Legacy Foundation — set up in honour of the youngest player to lose his life in the Humboldt Broncos bus crash — is bringing its Hockey and Leadership Development program to the ice in Maple Creek for a weekend of skills training and community involvement.

“The Maple Creek-Cypress Hills area was one of Adam’s favourite places to visit, whether we were hunting or enjoying other outdoor activities,” Adam’s dad, Russell Herold, said in an AHLF release. “It will definitely be sad to be there without him, but we’re excited to bring his story and the program to the youth in this part of the province that he loved so much.”

The program will focus on skills development, as well as mental and physical training — but also community leadership.

The release states hockey skills are an important part of the camp, however it also stresses the significance of helping others and giving back within the community. As a result, all participants of the camp will be asked to complete volunteer work in their community as part of the program’s leadership training.

Maple Creek is the program’s third location this season, and the third year the camp has been running. One-day mini camps are also held each year in Montmartre, Sask., at the rink where Adam learned to skate.
