Construction season continues with more road work projects

-

As road work wraps up in one area of the city, it is commencing in others.

Prince Street

Prince Street from the intersection of N. Railway Street to Maple Avenue is the latest area to be closed by such.

Work began Monday to improve the road’s structure, including the replacement of its storm water system, curbs, sidewalks and surface asphalt.

Construction is expected to last through early October, until which time motorists and pedestrians will be detoured from the area via a temporary bypass road.

Hill Road

Portions of Hill Road to Sixth Street SE reopened this past weekend to vehicular traffic, though direct access to Fifth Avenue SE and several pedestrian sidewalks remains unavailable. The work, which aims to replace aging infrastructure, began in early July and is scheduled to conclude by the end of the month, weather depending.

Allowance Avenue

Allowance Avenue roadwork was unexpectedly delayed earlier this summer when crews encountered unmarked and incorrectly recorded underground infrastructure, resulting in a nearly two-month extension beyond the project’s initial estimated conclusion date.

Construction on Allowance Avenue is now expected to conclude by the end of the week, at which time the road will reopen, except for intersections at Balmoral Street and Ash Avenue. All work is expected to conclude in late October or early November, weather depending.

Carry Drive

Motorists are advised to avoid Carry Drive beginning today until the end of the week, as asphalt paving along the stretch of road between Crestwood Drive and Southview Drive is likely to cause delays. Paving is expected to be complete by Friday for this portion of the road.

Work continues on the portion of road stretching between Southview Drive and Ross Glen Drive, and will eventually extend to Cameron Road before the overall project wraps up in mid-to-late September.
