Thanks to the organizers of the downtown festivities on Sept. 17. Blessed with perfect weather, everything seemed to go like clockwork. Well done!

That the world was told the funeral chant for Queen Elizabeth II (Kontakion of the Departed) was Russian. No, it was developed in the old Slavonic Church of the Kyiv Rus Empire (Ukraine, 9th century AD). Also, Russia has disgraced the name of the ancient Russian Empire. It should go back to being called Moscova.

How many people could have been helped with $400K? The insanity never ends.

To the editor. Trudeau can have 10 degrees but none of his two degrees qualify him to run the country. I do believe we need government but I also believe we need a business to run the government. We are on the hook for horrendous debt which will hurt generations to come. And I’m glad your paper is not under the government’s thumb. (Editor’s note: This is an acceptable opinion for this section but the original comment said he was uneducated, which is what was corrected.)

Tickled Pink

I am so tickled about how

the Together Again event went out Saturday. The weather was perfect the meal on the bridge was perfect. And why couldn’t we do that again next year? I mean, with local bands and vendors though, so it wouldn’t cost as much — I realize the federal government paid for this one. It brought so many people downtown and all the stores and restaurants were doing so well because of it.

Together Again sounds amazing. As it should for $400,000, but few heard about it. Fire the person in charge of promotions. No article in paper. No road closure announcements. Terrible. (Editor’s note: There were multiple articles in the newspaper leading up to this event, including being the first to report what it cost and who paid for it.)

That the News presents both sides of political debate in columns by Drew Barnes, MLA for Cypress-Medicine Hat as a conservative supporting the hard right policies of Pierre Poilievre as the Conservative Party of Canada’s new leader, versus Dr. Daniel Schnee’s leftleaning argument in “The Human Condition,” who warns of the dangers of single-issue “Liberty Politics.” My take on this debate is the adage “Don’t Throw Away the Baby with the Bathwater”, because Alberta

The Prime Minister goes to Queen’s funeral in England and is recorded drunk and singing in a bar. Shameful. (Editor’s note: There is no evidence he was drunk, just evidence he’s an awful singer.)

To the waste management man who always picks up the garbage after all the dumpster divers in their fancy vehicles are done behind Giant Tiger.

Someone asks to name one freedom that was taken away. Many people supply lists.

Return comment “I never had those taken away” and “there were no stores closed down”. You asked what freedoms “others” had taken away, you know, the ones Trudeau said “there is no space for.” If you only shop at Walmart and can’t think for yourself, life is great.

At the Medicine Hat Soccer Association. Their registration process is the worst in the whole city. Someone needs to figure out their website or hire a new administration co-ordinator. Every season there are issues that never get resolved.

At our wood-burning commoner and others who are miffed. Isn’t ignorance delightfully blissful? The ability to condense highly complex duties, protocol and etiquettes of such an historical global occasion as attending the 70-plus-year reign of service of our Monarch’s funeral, as trite and wasteful. The PM, leader of Canada, a member of the Commonwealth, was ‘invited’ to attend her funeral, as were the 2,000 other Royals, heads of state, PM’s and presidents from across Europe, Asia, Asian countries, New Zealand and Australia.

What an amazing summary and message former PM Brian Mulroney gave in Ottawa during church service on Monday for the Queen.

Haven’t lost any freedoms of speech when such profound insights on bread bag clips’ demise from plastic to paper can be printed in the paper.

To the taxpayer ticked off at federal employees’ day off for the Queen’s funeral. As a federal employee I would like to say thanks taxpayer, although I won’t be watching the funeral. I’ll be singing Bohemian Rhapsody. Also I rarely put in a full day’s work any other day either, so thanks again.

Name freedoms I lost? Freedom to control what I put in my body, to travel inside and outside of Canada, to visit with friends, to support a cause I believe in without fear of retribution, to go to a restaurant, to visit a friend in the hospital, to watch my daughter play live sports. That’s seven freedoms too many. Isn’t Canada supposed to be a free country?
