Price has held upper hand on King Henrik

- RANGERS AT CANADIENS Bell Centre, Thursday, 7:30 p.m., Sportsnet 360, RDS, TSN Radio-690 PAT HICKEY MONTREAL GAZETTE phickey@ montrealgazette.com

The rivalry: This is the home opener for the Canadiens and what could be better than an Original Six matchup against the New York Rangers? Well, it could have been better if both teams were undefeated with 4-0 records. The Canadiens kept their end of the bargain on Tuesday night with a 3-2 win in Pittsburgh, but the Rangers — the only team with a better regular-season record than the Canadiens in 2014-15 — dropped a 4-1 home decision to Winnipeg.

Quick healer: Max Pacioretty’s play to start the season casts doubt on the importance of training camp. Pacioretty broke a bone in his left leg in July and missed most of training camp, but it hasn’t stopped the newly minted team captain from getting off to a strong start. Pacioretty leads the team in goals (four), points (six) and joins teammates Andrei Markov and Tomas Plekanec with a league-best plus/minus rating of plus-6.

Battle of goalies: This game pits two of the elite goaltenders in the NHL in a rematch of the duel in the final of the 2014 Sochi Olympics. Carey Price led Team Canada past Sweden and Henrik Lundqvist 3-0. Price has generally had the upper hand against King Henrik and the Rangers. Price was 2-0 against New York last season and allowed only one goal. His career record against New York is 10-5-1 with a 1.86 goals-against average. Lundqvist is 14-13-2 against the Canadiens with a 2.69 GAA.

Dangerous foes: Rookie centre Oscar Lindberg is making a successful transition to the NHL after two seasons in the AHL. The Swede leads the Rangers with four goals and was one of the NHL’s three stars last week. Mats Zuccarello scored New York’s only goal in the loss to Winnipeg and has three goals in the past three games.

Not very powerful: Coach Michel Therrien is hoping that a week at home will give his team a chance to work on the power play. Pacioretty scored one of his goals Tuesday on the power play, but the Canadiens are 2 for 16 to start the season. The Rangers are even worse. They haven’t had many opportunities and they are 1 for 9 after coming up empty on five chances Tuesday.

Looking ahead: This game marks the start of a threegame homestand for the Canadiens after their very successful road trip allowed them to tie a team record for the best start in a season. The last time the Canadiens went 4-0 was in 1977. The Detroit Red Wings visit the Bell Centre on Saturday, followed by the St. Louis Blues on Tuesday.
