Owners of residential rental buildings can get financial assistance of up to $ 5 per square foot from Hydro- Québec for the purchase of ENERGY STAR ® certified windows. It pays to change your windows!
“The program targets owners of rental properties of up to six storeys that have electric or dual- energy heating and are located in Quebec,” explained Marc- Antoine Pouliot, a Hydr o - Québec s pokespers o n. “For t he purposes of t hi s program, a s emi- basement is considered to be a storey.” Single- family homes that are rented out and owner- occupied properties are not eligible.

Hydro- Québec’s ENERGY STAR Certified Windows for Rental Properties program provides a number of advantages for building owners. In addition to taking advantage of financial support that reduces renovation costs, you’ll make your rental property more attractive to tenants.
“Energy- efficient windows add value to residential buildings,” Pouliot said.
From the tenant’s perspective, ENERGY STAR certified windows have numerous benefits since they reduce heating costs and condensation, i mprove comfort, protect against sun damage thanks to UV filtering, and reduce outside noise.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
Owners who wish to take part in the program must meet certain conditions.
For example, at least five windows per property must be replaced with windows that are ENERGY STAR ® certified for the climate zone where the building is located.
“The minimal surface area must be eight square feet per window and the purchase must be made between Sept. 1, 2014, and Aug. 31, 2016,” Pouliot said.
Patio doors and skylights are not covered by the program.
PROGRAMTERMS AND CONDITIONS
The request for financial assistance must include the duly completed and signed form, the detailed bill as well as the ENERGY STAR ® data sheets for the new windows. “Financial assistance is $ 1 per square foot for double- glazed windows and $ 5 per square foot for triple- glazed windows,” added the Hydro- Québec spokesperson.
To fully take advantage of the program, purchase ENERGY STAR ® certified windows from a window retailer or manufacturer. They’ll help you with the application for financial assistance by supplying the ENERGY STAR data sheets for the window models purchased.
