Santa and 50 floats will arrive in Hudson Dec. 6
The annual Santa Claus Parade is coming to Hudson on Dec. 6.
“It’s one of the trademark events for Hudson at Christmas,” said Nicolas Pedneault, Hudson’s director of culture and tourism. The parade is always held on the first Saturday of December.
About 50 floats from local organizations and businesses are expected to participate, said Pedneault. That’s about the same number as last year.
This year’s theme will be sciencefiction.
“We know that (the parade) is happening around the same time as the new Star Wars movie is being released, and people are talking about that,” Pedneault said.
In recent years, the parade has had traditional Christmas and western themes.
The parade will start at 1 p.m. at Westwood Senior High School on Côte St. Charles and end at the community centre on Main Road, where Father Christmas himself will be waiting to greet revellers with hot chocolate.
Neither rain nor snow will stop the parade, said Pedneault. It will continue in the event of bad weather, adding that even though it’s a Christmas parade, “it’s really an event for everyone.”
The event’s $3,000 budget includes the cost of advertisements and hot chocolate, Pedneault said. The floats are the financial responsibility of their owners.
The other holiday traditions in the town, the festival of lights and the Christmas market, will be on Dec. 4.
