Maxime Roussy, the author of French-language books that were very popular with preteens in Quebec until his arrest six years ago, has been sentenced to an overall prison term of five years for having sexually assaulted one of his young fans.

Roussy, 41, was found guilty in December of armed sexual assault, online luring of a minor and other crimes of a sexual nature including the possession and production of child pornography. The crimes occurred between July 4, 2006, and March 5, 2011, and involved a girl who was 11 years old when she began to communicate with Roussy online. Roussy’s trial began on March 7 last year and was held over the course of many nonconsecutive days over the past 12 months.

At the time of his arrest, in April 2011, Roussy was the author of books published in French such as Le Blogue de Namasté and Pakkal, which were very popular in Quebec with young teenagers and preteens.

The victim in the sexual assault case was a fan of the Pakkal series of books. Roussy and the girl first had sex when she was 14 years old in 2008.

Over the course of the next two years, they had sex nine more times during which Roussy used a series of sex toys on the young teen. They would meet while Roussy, who is from the Saguenay region, would visit cities like Montreal and Quebec City to take part in book fairs.

Roussy’s sentence factors in how he violated the conditions of his bail on at least three occasions in 2013.

With time served factored into the sentence, Roussy has a little more than 55 months left to serve. Roussy has been detained since he was found guilty in December.
