The Canadiens are home to the Detroit Red Wings Tuesday. Here are five things you should know from Pat Hickey:

1 A classic trap game

This should be an easy win for Montreal. The Canadiens (41-23-8) are on top of the Atlantic Division and the Red Wings are going to miss the playoffs for the first time since 1990. But coach Claude Julien warns that teams like the Red Wings can pose a challenge because they have nothing to lose. Detroit had a two-game win streak going into Monday’s home game against Buffalo.

2 Playoffs a lock?

The folks at sportsclubstats.com think so. They say the Canadiens have a 100-per-cent chance to make the playoffs after sweeping Ottawa during the weekend. Montreal has an excellent chance of wrapping up first place in the division because they are four points up on the Senators, nine of their 10 remaining games are against teams currently out of the playoffs and they have six games at home.

3 Good news, bad news

In the Canadiens’ two wins over Ottawa, the goals in regulation time came from Paul Byron, Tomas Plekanec, Jordie Benn, Nathan Beaulieu, Andrew Shaw, Phillip Danault and Brendan Gallagher. The production from some unexpected sources answered the question: Where’s the secondary scoring? At the same time, the big three of Max Pacioretty, Alex Galchenyuk and Alex Radulov failed to collect a point.

4 Price back in top form

Carey Price is 9-4-1 since Julien replaced Michel Therrien and he has won eight of his last nine starts. He has allowed 19 goals in those 14 games and Tom Pyatt needed a deflection to beat Price for Ottawa’s only goal Sunday. Price, who struggled in January and early February, has reclaimed his spot among the top goaltenders in the NHL with a 2.26 goalsagainst average and a .923 save percentage.

5 The other guys

A lot of Detroit’s problems can be traced to goaltending. Jimmy Howard has been hurt and Petr Mrazek (3.04 GAA, .899 Sv%) hasn’t lived up to hopes. Henrik Zetterberg, with 59 points and 15 goals, is the leading scorer, while Tomas Tatar (20 goals) is the team’s top sniper. Dylan Larkin also has 15 goals, but is minus-27 in a generally disappointing sophomore campaign.
