Montreal police Station 5 serving Dorval, Île-Dorval and PointeClaire: Jane Rajca has been helping the Montreal police department by extension — through her work with the citizens group Comité aviseur des partinaires (CAP) — for 20 years. Rajca, who lives in Dorval, helped create a pamphlet about bullying and how to prevent it, is involved in the annual crime and drug-prevention event for West Island high school students and helps out with Bingo night for the elderly. Const. Catherine Legault said Rajca was presented with an SPVM certificate of recognition by Station 5 Cmdr. Marc-André Dorion on April 10.

Station 4 serving Dollard-desOrmeaux: Keep your purse close and your wallet closer. A woman’s wallet with all her credit cards and her mobile phone was pinched from her coat pocket while she was having dinner at a restaurant on St-Jean Blvd., April 6. Montreal Police Const. Leslie Potts said the way the pick pockets work is to enter a restaurant and survey where people have placed their coats and hung their purses. They wait until people are distracted by conversation and then they pick the coat pocket or remove the purse. Potts said people should refrain from putting their wallet in a coat pocket and then hanging the coat on the back of the chair and a purse should always be kept close and in plain sight of its owner.

A student from John Abbott College filed a report at Station 4, saying he was mugged on his way to school to see his supervisor, April 14. The victim was walking along the street near the intersection of Cérès Ave. and Hyman St. at around 8:45 a.m. when he was violently shoved to the ground from behind. The mugger took the victim’s wallet and iPhone 6. The assailant is described as black, thin, about 5-foot-9 and was dressed in black. He did not speak during the mugging.

Station 3 serving Pierrefonds-Roxboro and Île-Bizard-Ste-Geneviève: A grey 2015 Hyundai Elantra was stolen from the AMT parking lot of the Sunnybrooke train station in Pierrefonds-Roxboro on April 5. Montreal police Const. Daniel Maheu said a woman parked her car at 7:30 a.m. and took the train to work. When she returned at around 6 p.m., the car was nowhere to be found. She searched the parking lot for 30 minutes and called the towing company, to no avail.
