Prized broncos well cared for

-

It is time to set the record straight. I am a longtime horseback rider and fierce horse lover. The notion that rodeo horses are mistreated is frustratingly false.

For starters, a bucking bronco is bred to do just that — buck. A horse’s natural instinct when in pain or fear is not to buck, but to flee.

A rodeo bronc is highly prized and well cared for, but the misinformed would have him rescued.

I know that if the general population knew how we “horse people” spoiled our beloved animals — hydroponically grown grass, osteopath visits, whirlpool baths for their legs, etc. — there might be an uproar of a different kind. Jennifer Udvarhelyi, N.D.G.
