Kaepernick stays active in social justice

Former 49ers quarterbac­k Colin Kaepernick has yet to find another NFL job, but he’s donating some of his old suits to help others find work. Video and pictures from social media show Kaepernick standing outside a New York City parole office with two boxes of custom-made suits. An Instagram post by Kaepernick’s Know Your Rights Camp campaign says the suits will make parolees “better equipped to achieve gainful employment” and “live more productive lives.”

Alabama throws millions at Saban

The University of Alabama is giving football head coach Nick Saban plenty of incentive to stick around — and to sign a contract extension in the first place. University trustees on Tuesday approved a three-year extension through the 2024 season that could pay Saban at least US$65 million during the next eight years. Saban will make US$11.125 million this year, counting a US$4-million signing bonus and a US$400,000 completion bonus. The 65-yearold Saban has led Alabama to four national titles in the past seven seasons.

Ottawa’s Woods to cycle in Giro d’Italia

Canadian Mike Woods is headed to the Giro d’Italia. The 30-yearold from Ottawa has been named to Cannondale-Drapac’s team for the 100th running of the race, which opens Friday on the Italian island of Sardinia. This Giro d’Italia marks Woods’ first Grand Tour. The race concludes May 28 with a 28-kilometre time trial to Milan.
