Montreal Police Station 3 serving Pierrefonds-Roxboro and Île-Bizard-Ste-Geneviève: A suspicious fire engulfed a pickup truck in Pierrefonds-Roxboro in the wee hours of April 28.

Const. Daniel Maheu said a passerby called the police when he came across the burning vehicle near the intersection of Garland and Sommerset streets at around 2:45 a.m. Firefighters doused the flames.

The fierce fire was fed by a pile of grass cuttings and branches in the truck’s cargo bed. The passerby did not witness anyone in the vicinity at the time of the fire.

The truck’s owner was able to retrieve his wallet from the cab and reported nothing was stolen. He told the police he had people in mind who might have been responsible for the fire, but would not share the information. The truck — a white, 2006 Ford-F250 — is used for the man’s business, the name and telephone number of which was clearly marked on the side of the vehicle.

Station 4 serving Dollard-des-Ormeaux: It was a crime of opportunity which could have been prevented. A brief stop at a store on Sources Boulevard proved to be unlucky for a woman, April 25. It was a nice day, so she left the passenger window of her Nissan Versa open while she went into a store for about 15 minutes. Const. Leslie Potts said the woman returned to her car at 9:15 a.m. and her purse, containing $90 and all her credit and identity cards, was gone.

The grab-and-run involving two teenagers was captured on the security camera of a nearby business. Both are described as around 15 years old.

One is white and was wearing a red sweater. The other is black and was wearing dark clothing. Potts reminded drivers to close windows and lock doors before leaving the car unattended.
