Volunteer West Island is looking for volunteer drivers with own car, to deliver frozen meals to clients in the West Island. The meals are picked up at our provider located on the TransCanad­a in Dorval and delivered Thursday and/or Friday mornings. Drivers receive $2.50 for each delivery which can be 8 to 12 meals. Minimum age: 18.

Various Meals on Wheels kitchens need volunteer drivers. At the kitchen serving Kirkland, meals are picked up at the Cedar Park Church in Pointe-Claire. At the kitchen serving Ste-Anne-de-Bellevue, meals are prepared at the St. Georges Church meals on Tuesday and Thursday mornings and delivery is done between 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. This is a one-day, once-amonth commitment. Minimum age: 18.

NOVA West Island is looking for volunteers for various positions: Cooks to prepare lunch for their adult centres which provides a respite to caregivers of seniors suffering from Alzheimer’s or dementia. The meals are prepared at the centre or at the volunteer’s home Tuesdays to Fridays between 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. They also need volunteers to help with activities at the centre Tuesdays, Wednesdays and/or Thursdays 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Volunteers are also needed to help with palliative care. Minimum age: 18. A food bank in Pointe-Claire is looking for volunteers to fill various positions: Monday and Tuesday afternoons in their warehouse sorting and boxing food donations. Wednesday morning picking up donations from Premiere Moisson on St. Charles Blvd. and bring it to warehouse. Thursday afternoons two volunteers to prepare baskets with specific items for different families. A bilingual volunteer to help with office work two hours/three days a week Monday to Wednesday. An organizati­on in Lachine that provides support to borderline intellectu­ally handicappe­d individual­s is looking for bilingual volunteers to join their board of directors. Individual­s with experience in finance, accounting, fundraisin­g, or social services are ideal. Meetings take place eight times a year in Lachine. Minimum age 21.

The 10th edition of the Relay for Life will be held in June. The organizing committee is looking for volunteers to help in various positions. An 81-year-old Pointe-Claire man would benefit from having a male volunteer visit him at his home. He has dementia but can still hold a conversati­on and loves watching football games and playing dominoes. He would also like, on nice days, to go for walks. A Pierrefond­s woman in her early 50s, would like a female volunteer to take her out to the mall for shopping and walks. She lives alone and is isolated with psychiatri­c problems as well. She is very open to new people and pleasant to be around. A 40-year-old Pierrefond­s man with a light intellectu­al disability would like a volunteer to take him for walks, watch baseball games with and go to the movies. He lives with his mother and he likes meeting new people.

A Greek speaking-woman in her late 80s would like a volunteer to keep her company during the morning. She lives in Pierrefond­s with her son due to Alzheimer’s but gets lonely while he is away. Her first language is Greek but understand­s and speaks some English. Activities include short walks, conversati­on and cooking. An English and Arabic speaking woman in her 70s in Pointe-Claire is looking for a female volunteer to accompany her on outings. She is isolated and is very big into community service. Very outgoing and loves to talk. She needs help with grocery shopping and would love company to see a movie or get a coffee.
