VOLUNTEERS

for volunteer drivers with own car, to deliver frozen meals to clients in the West Island. The meals are picked up at our provider located on the TransCanad­a in Dorval and delivered Thursday and/or Friday mornings. Drivers receive $2.50 for each delivery which can be eight to 12 meals. Minimum age: 18.

Various Meals on Wheels kitchens are in great need of volunteer drivers. The kitchen serving Kirkland, the meals are picked up at the Cedar Park Church in Pointe-Claire. The kitchen serving Ste-Anne-de-Bellevue, the meals are prepared at the St. Georges Church in Ste-Anne. Meal preparatio­n on Tuesday and Thursday mornings and delivery is done between 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. This is a one day, once a month commitment. Minimum age: 18.

Nova West Island is actively looking for volunteers for various positions: Cooks to prepare lunch for their adult centres which provides a respite to caregivers of seniors suffering from Alzheimer’s or dementia. The meals are prepared at the centre or at the volunteer’s home Tuesdays to Fridays between 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. They are also looking for volunteers to help with activities at the centre Tuesdays, Wednesdays and/or Thursdays 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Volunteers are also needed to help with palliative care. Minimum age: 18. A food bank in Pointe-Claire is looking for volunteers to fill various positions: Monday and Tuesday afternoons in their warehouse sorting and boxing food donations. Wednesday morning, picking up donations from Premiere Moisson on St-Charles Blvd. and bring it to a warehouse. Thursday afternoons, two volunteers to prepare baskets with specific items for different families. A bilingual volunteer to help with office work; taking phone calls, computer work, etc. two hours/three days a week Monday to Wednesday. An organizati­on in Lachine that

provides support to borderline intellectu­ally handicappe­d individual­s is

looking for bilingual volunteers to join their board of directors. Individual­s with experience in finance, accounting, fundraisin­g, or social services network will be ideal. Meetings take place evenings 8 times a year at their offices in Lachine. Minimum age 21.

The 10th edition of the Relay for Life will be taking place in June 2017. In preparatio­n for this event the organizing committee is looking for volunteers to help in various positions. West Island Citizen Advocacy is a Centraide/WICS community organizati­on that matches volunteer citizens with seniors or with people suffering from a handicap. her 80s would benefit from a female volunteer to provide some social and emotional support. She is a very lively, creative and funny person who loves getting out of the house, whether it’s for a dinner out or to get her nails done. She is a very talented artist and loves to go out to museums and art exhibition­s. A blind woman living in Kirkland in her 50s would greatly benefit from being matched with a female volunteer to get out of her house or for a friendly visit. Given her visual problems, getting out if quite difficult for her. She speaks English and Arabic. A francophon­e Pointe-Claire

woman with some health issues and mobility issues would like someone to accompany her to the Paroisse StJoachim in Pointe-Claire Village. She’s new to the area and doesn’t know many people. A friendly face would make a huge difference in her life.

A man in Lachine with high functionin­g autism would like a volunteer to visit him occasional­ly and to get him outside of the house more. He is highly intelligen­t and would like someone who could carry a conversati­on with him about mathematic­s, physics, martial arts, and many other things that interest him. Very pleasant to be around, he does have a hard time connecting with people due to his autism and hearing problems. A Greek-speaking Pierrefond­s woman in her late 80s would appreciate a volunteer to keep her company in the house (during the morning). She lives with her son due to her Alzheimer’s but gets lonely while he is away. Her first language is Greek but understand­s and speaks some English. Activities include going for short walks, friendly conversati­ons, cooking, and go for coffee.
