A pillow tailor-made for the rich and prosperous
There’s gold in them thar … pillows? OK, maybe not actual gold nuggets. But for deep-pocketed customers who want to rest their weary heads on something goldlike, there is the Tailormade Pillow Gold Edition.
Deemed to be “the world’s most exclusive and expensive pillow,” this gem-encrusted, gold-woven pillow features custom memory-foam blocks covered with 24-karat gold fabric. The zipper features a 22.5-karat sapphire and four diamonds, according to Elle Decor.
The brainchild of Dutch physical therapist Thijs van der Hilst, the extravagant pillow design requires a three-dimensional scan of a client’s head. Robots then utilize a “patented algorithm” to come up with the appropriate shape, carving out a form based on the client’s size and sleep patterns.
Hilst spent 15 years developing the tailor-made pillow, using 3D scanners, printers, a complex mathematical algorithm, Mulberry silk, Egyptian cotton and fabric made of 24-karat gold.
“Combining high-tech solutions and old-fashioned craftsmanship, Tailormade Pillow is the most innovative and above all personalized pillow ever made,” the company’s website states. “With over 15 years of research and development together with sleep specialists, medical doctors and high-tech engineers, it complements a range of innovating and revolutionary pillows.”
So if customers happen to have a cool US$56,995 hidden under their mattress — or even a mere US$4,995, if the company’s standard edition pillow will suffice — they can rest a little easier knowing they’ve made a sound (asleep) investment.
