Two children drown in separate incidents

Two children have died and a third was fighting for his life over the weekend after being found unconscious underwater in Quebec. The incidents are unrelated and took place in Upton, Sherbrooke and Chelsea.

Around 7:15 p.m. on Saturday, Acton police received a call concerning two children who were missing in the Upton area, in the Montérégie region.

Before the police arrived at the scene, the oldest child, five, had been located by the security guard at a campground. The boy told the police the younger child, three, had fallen into the river. He was found unconscious in the Rivière Noire behind a residence. He was taken to a hospital and was confirmed dead Saturday night.

The two other incidents occurred at children’s parties.In Sherbrooke, a call was made to 911 at 11:15 a.m. Saturday for an eight-year-old boy found inert in a family pool in the Jacques-Cartier borough. Adults at the scene performed resuscitation and paramedics took over. He was taken to a hospital, where he was clinging to life. On Friday in the Outaouais region, an 11-year-old boy drowned in a residential pool. He was found unconscious at the bottom around 9 p.m.
