Major holes in our health care
Re: “A tale of two health systems” (Letters, June 15); “Better access to physio, OT is needed” (Opinion, June 15) Two more tales on the sorry state our health-care system, on the same day and on the same page.
The letter about the man who developed a massive infection is not unusual. In his case, the infection developed after he was forced to endure a long delay for a necessary procedure. With the sorry state of many hospitals, anyone having an operation must worry about getting C. difficile or another infection.
The opinion piece on outpatient physiotherapy and occupational therapy services is just another example of the many deficiencies in our health-care system.
Clearly there is a need for more health-care professionals in all areas of the system. Any quotas that get in the way of this should be lifted.
As well, the government should institute a system — used in other countries — of “activity-based funding,” or paying hospitals based on the number of medical procedures performed.
Premier Philippe Couillard and Health Minister Gaétan Barrette are to blame for mismanaging our healthcare system, and must be put on notice that citizens are fed up. The Liberals are not the only party in Quebec that wants our votes.
