Food writer Armstrong among 49 being honoured
Governor General David Johnston will honour 49 people with meritorious service decorations at Rideau Hall in Ottawa on Friday morning.
Longtime Montreal Gazette food journalist and author Julian Armstrong is among the 36 individuals receiving meritorious service medals, while the 13 others will receive meritorious service crosses.
Armstrong, who is originally from Toronto, is being honoured for her work in food journalism and raising awareness about Quebec’s culinary cuisine in the rest of Canada.
For many decades, Armstrong was a food reporter for the Toronto Star and then the Montreal Gazette. In 2016, she was inducted into the Taste Canada Hall of Fame.
Some of the other individuals being honoured with a meritorious service cross include Simple Plan members Pierre Bouvier, Charles-André Comeau, Sébastien Lefebvre and Jean-François Stinco for working with youth; and Joanne Liu of Doctors Without Borders for her work during the ebola epidemic.
