Status quo for construction workers’ holidays

-

Holidays for construction workers will not change until at least Oct. 30 despite the continuing labour unrest, Dominique Vien, Quebec’s Minister of Labour, announced Wednesday. From July 23 to Aug. 5, the province’s labourers will have their annual construction holiday. They will also have regular holidays on June 23, June 30, Sept. 4 and Oct. 9. Striking construction workers were forced to go back to work at the end of May when the Quebec government passed Bill 142. A collective agreement between employers and unions has yet to be reached. The parties are in a mediation period until Oct. 30, at which time scheduled construction holidays will be revisited.
