Hudson Music Festival adds concert series

- BRIANA TOMKINSON

The Hudson Music Festival is branching out with the addition of a concert series to keep the music going before and after the weeklong event. The Music Series In the Barn will take place at the 2 Barn Owls art gallery and boutique at 420 Main Road in Hudson. The first of the concerts in the series was held in late June, with three more concerts booked in August, September and October. Upcoming events in the music series include Australian singersongwriter Jay Atwill on Aug. 8, a tribute to Chet Baker by the Ron DiLauro Quartet on Sept. 17 and bossa nova band the Jean-François Léger Trio on Oct. 22. Sculpture artist Nancy Farnum, who operates the gallery with painter Mavis Martin, said the unique venue has great acoustics and can accommodate up to 90 people. Along with the Music Series in the Barn, the 11th annual music festival will bring internationally and regionally known artists to perform in venues throughout Hudson from Aug. 5 to 12. Concerts will be held throughout the town, under a tent in the Mews Concert Square in the heart of the village, at St-James Church, the Hudson Yacht Club, The Chateau du Lac bar, Cunningham’s Pub, and even at the Hudson-Oka ferry terminal. The street fair this Saturday and Sunday will also be animated by roving performers. The majority of the concerts will be free, with ticketed concerts ranging in price from $5 to $55, with most tickets between $10 and $20. The Hudson Music Festival will be held Aug. 5 to 12 in various venues. For more information about the program or to buy tickets, visit hudsonmusicfestival.ca.
