Vaudreuil-Dorion is moving ahead with reconstruction plans for Harwood Road, thanks to financial assistance from the provincial government.

The city announced that the Quebec government will contribute a grant of $2,158,846 for the much-needed upgrade of the regional road.

The construction work is set to begin in mid-September and will last about four months, the city said.

Vaudreuil-Dorion Mayor Guy Pilon said Harwood Rd. was due for major repairs.

“In fact, in 2016, this particular road was even included on the list of the most damaged roads in the Montérégie area,” the mayor said.

The busy artery was ranked third in the Montérégie as part of CAA’s Worst Roads ranking in spring 2016.

“I would like to thank our MNA, Marie-Claude Nichols, who intervened on several occasions in order to help get things moving with regards to this issue.

“Her support has been so important to us. Now, construction is ready to begin so we can finally give our citizens a usable road,” Pilon said.

The total cost of the project is estimated at around $4.3 million, with provincial government and city splitting the costs.

The government grant was awarded as part of the Quebec Ministry of Transport’s local roads rehabilitation program.

Roxboro Excavation was awarded the contract to carry out the work.

Last year, city officials noted that the surface of Harwood Road (Route 342), which is located between highways 20 and 40, is in very poor condition and constitutes a source of great discomfort for motorists who use it.
