Police seeking victims of serial thief
Montreal police are seeking other victims of a man accused of posing as a ventilation inspector to break into businesses and steal wallets, jewelry and electronics.
Martin Marchand, 43, was arrested by police and faces several charges of breaking and entering.
Between June 5 and Sept. 5, several break-ins occurred at commercial buildings in Dollard-des-Ormeaux, St-Laurent, Dorval and Pointe-Claire. The suspect worked the same way each time, police allege. He targeted buildings under renovation, arriving on the site wearing a hard hat and presenting himself as an employee for a ventilation company who had to carry out inspections.
Once in the building, he is alleged to have entered offices and stolen wallets, credit cards, cash, watches, jewelry, electronics and other items. He was sometimes accompanied by an accomplice, and arrived in different vehicles: a recent model white Dodge Durango; a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee or a white 2015 Chevrolet Corvette, police say.
Marchand was arrested Sept. 5 while attempting to break into three businesses on Nuns’ Island and downtown, police said. He is facing 17 charges of breaking and entering. His alleged accomplice, a 41-year-old woman, will appear in court as well.
Police have reason to believe there are other victims.
