Police seek potential victims of man charged with luring

The Montreal police suspect a man they arrested this week, on charges alleging he attempted to convince minors to send him nude photos of themselves, has other victims.

David Rossy, 30, of Arundel, is currently detained on four charges alleging he communicated with a minor to facilitate a sex crime, counselled a minor to touch their body in a sexual manner and possessed child pornography. According to the charge sheet filed at the Montreal courthouse, the alleged offences occurred between Aug. 14 and Oct. 4, the day Rossy was arrested.

On Friday, the Montreal police issued a statement saying investigators with its Child Sexual Exploitation Unit believe other minors were approached by Rossy and are asking them to file a complaint. The police allege Rossy used Instagram, a photo-sharing application, to approach young girls while pretending to work for a fashion company “named fashion2mtl and used the pseudonym Anna Stein to hide his true identity. He asked the victims to send intimate photos of themselves. If they refused, the suspect threatened to post intimate photos he received (beforehand) to the families and to the internet.”

Rossy is also alleged to have used the names soho.marc and eatndrinkslow on Instagram and Snapchat while allegedly committing similar crimes.

“While using these profiles, the suspect charmed his victims by offering them expensive gifts in exchange for photos and videos of a sexual nature,” the Montreal police stated in the release. Rossy has a lengthy criminal record for similar offences and for fraud.

Rossy was also charged this week with having violated court orders imposed on him in 2011 after he pleaded guilty to a series of charges filed in similar child luring cases. He admitted to having convinced three girls, between the ages of 13 and 16, to perform stripteases in front of their webcams. He used a computer to create photos of what the girls did and then threatened to make the photos public if the girls refused to have sex with him. One of the girls was so intimidated by Rossy’s threats that she agreed to have intercourse with him on several occasions. Rossy was sentenced to a prison term of two years less a day and three years of probation in that case.

he Montreal police ask that anyone who might have been a victim of the luring to file a complaint at their neighbourhood police station or call 911.
