Drivers of electric vehicles can now charge up their cars at Fairview shopping centre in Pointe-Claire.

Fairview is one of four Cadillac Fairview-owned properties in the Montreal region that recently unveiled a network of fast electric vehicle (EV ) chargers for the growing consumer base of EV owners.

Fairview shopping centre now has one fast charging unit and two standard chargers.

Other CF properties that have charging units include Carrefour Laval, Galeries d’Anjou, and Promenades St-Bruno.

Cadillac Fairview launched a national electric vehicle charging program this year in partnership with FLO, a company that operates a charging network with more than 3,000 stations across Canada.

In Quebec, eight Level 2 chargers and four universal fast chargers have been deployed at CF properties.

CF will deploy an additional 22 Level 2 chargers and 11 universal fast chargers at 11 other sites in Canada, with possibly more to come at a later date.

“At Cadillac Fairview, we are in constant pursuit of innovative ways to help to build stronger and greener communities across the country,” said Sal Iacono, Cadillac Fairview’s executive vice-president of operations.

“Through our partnership with FLO, we’re able to provide our guests with a best-in-class experience with a unique amenity that promotes sustainability, as well as a low-carbon future in Canada.”

Simon Granger of FLO said anyone wanting to use one of the chargers first has to become a member of the FLO network.

“It’s a network we operate across Canada,” Granger said. “You first have to become a FLO member, then you can activate or authenticate at the charging stations.”

Activation can be done using a FLO membership or by mobile application (app).

Granger said it takes about 20 to 30 minutes to recharge an EV using a fast charger. It will cost about $15 per hour to use a fast charger.

“If you just want to grab a coffee while you get a quick charge, it’s going to cost you $5 if you stay 20 minutes.”

As for the standard Level 2 charger, it will cost $1.25 per hour for a charge, but it could take between three and four hours to charge.

“So if you charge for three hours, it will cost under $5 for charging,” Granger said.

While the charging service is available to the public, Granger said it is geared to people going to a CF-owned shopping centre.
