Police add personnel to sexual assault hotline

-

The Montreal police department said Wednesday it has received 272 calls to a sexual assault hotline set up less than a week earlier.

The department launched the 514-280-2079 hotline last Thursday in the wake of allegations of sexual misconduct against high-profile Quebec celebrities. On Tuesday, the police force announced it had added 15 extra personnel to deal with the influx of calls.

The hotline, while described as temporary, will remain in operation until further notice. It is open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday to Friday.

Persons wishing to file a complaint with police outside of those hours are urged to call 911 or visit their local police station.
