Once hockey rivals, couple celebrate birth of first child
For years, hockey players Caroline Ouellette and Julie Chu were onice rivals as members of the Canadian and U.S. women’s hockey teams. But away from the rink, the two former captains formed an office union, and last week the couple welcomed the birth of their first child.
Ouellette posted pictures of their daughter, Liv Chu- Ouellette, on Instagram on Monday, saying she felt “truly blessed to experience this incredible adventure with my love and best friend Julie.”
Ouellette wrote that she was pregnant with her daughter when she won the Clarkson Cup last spring as a member of the Les Canadiennes de Montréal of the Canadian Women’s Hockey League. Chu was also on the winning team last March. Their daughter was born Nov. 5, and Ouellette said she and Chu couldn’t be happier.
Ouellette is a four-time Olympic Gold medallist and was the captain when the Canadian women won the gold medal at the 2014 Sochi Olympics.
Chu won three Olympic silver medals in 2002, 2010 and 2014 and was the team captain between 2012 and 2013. She is now the coach of the Concordia University women’s hockey team.
