City to test emergency siren system Tuesday
The city of Montreal’s civil protection department will be testing its emergency siren system at 2 p.m. Tuesday.
The nine sirens, each located in factories and activated when a toxic leak has been detected, will be audible in 11 city boroughs and four neighbouring municipalities.
Residents living near the factories have already received notices of Tuesday’s test, which also includes preparedness drills for first responders. The message that the drill is a test and not an actual disaster will be broadcast on radio and television and posted on the website and Twitter account of the Quebec public security ministry. The exercise is carried out annually.
The sirens will be activated at the following sites:
