Committee created to save radio station
Montreal community radio station CIBL is counting on support from a high-profile recovery committee after encountering serious financial difficulties, Among others, the committee will include producer and artist manager Jacques K. Primeau, businessman Alexandre Taillefer, the former head of the Société de développement des entreprises culturelles, Monique Simard, and the executive director of Chantier de l’économie sociale, JeanMartin Aussant. Primeau, the director of promotion at CIBL in the 1980s and currently president of the board of directors of the Partenariat du Quartier des spectacles, will be the co-president of the station’s recovery committee, along with Chloé Sondervorst, a former CIBL 101.5 FM employee and currently a producer at Radio-Canada. The committee hopes to breathe new life into the station and assure its long-term survival. A general assembly is scheduled to take place in mid-March, Sondervorst told Le Devoir. About seven of 13 positions on the board of directors could be vacant. Some directors will be finishing their mandates, others have stepped down or are thinking about leaving the organization. CIBL will hold a benefit concert on Feb. 27 at Club Soda. It will feature performances by Mara Tremblay, Mononc’ Serge, Dany Placard, Yves Desrosiers, Luc De Larochellière, D-Track and Sonido Pesao. On Jan. 5, CIBL laid-off its 13 employees.
