Project of the week: Adamus Beaconsfield

- URSULA LEONOWICZ

Surrounded by a network of bike paths and nature trails and located near Beacon Hill park and pool, Beaconsfield Golf Club and Beaconsfield’s recreation centre, the 150-unit Adamus development currently being built on the site of the old Le Club West Island on Alton Drive and Elm Avenue, is perfectly positioned to become the ultimate residential destination for West Islanders with an active lifestyle.

With construction recently started, Adamus isn’t just breaking ground, it’s breaking new ground. That’s because it’s being built a mere block and a half away from the closest AMT train station in the area, making it Beaconsfield’s first ever transit-oriented development, or TOD.

Centered around public transport and focused on creating sustainable mixed-use communities, TODs are on the rise in Europe and cities like Toronto, where many new constructions are being built on the edge of the city’s core, near public transport.

NEIGHBOURHOOD

The project, which is the result of collaboration between KF Construction, David Smith Architect and a team that includes engineers, urban planners and landscape architects, is going up in a little section of Beaconsfield that’s known as Beacon Hill, where property values have slowly been on the rise for the past few years.

“It’s being built in a neighbourhood that’s established, not in the middle of what’s essentially going to be a field for many years to come,” explains Frank Di Ciocco, the director of real estate development at KF Construction. “That isn’t always the case, especially when it comes to the West Island.”

In addition to being perfectly positioned between a variety of services and conveniences, including several schools within walking distance, Beacon Hill is also located near the water, where there are yacht and boating clubs.

DESIGN AND ARCHITECTURE

Designed by David Smith Architect with traditional materials, such as brick and steel, and classic horizontal lines that are meant to harmonize with its surroundings, Adamus will also feature a large glass atrium that will house common areas on several floors. Glass balcony railings allow an abundance of light to filter inside the building and units.

CONDO UNITS

Adamus’ units will range from 700 square feet to just over 1,600 square feet with one-, two- and three-bedroom plans to choose from. Prices start at $229,900 plus tax, and include:

■ Quality windows and superior soundproofing

■ Air-conditioning

■ Highly durable flooring

■ Quartz kitchen countertops

■ Walk-in closets

■ Glass balcony railings

■ Heated indoor parking

Ground-floor units will also be designed and readily adaptable for mobility-impaired living.

PENTHOUSES

Penthouses range from $379,900 to $621,900 plus tax, and feature large open concept layouts, and multiple balconies, as well as the option for gas appliances, a gas fireplace and outdoor gas BBQ .
