Lecture series discusses parenting in digital age
McGill University ’s Faculty of Education is hosting a public lecture series next month called Effective Parenting that will deal with a wide variety of topics, including how to help your child manage stress, improving sleep and helping children navigate the internet and learn online. The five-week lecture series will be presented by professors in the Educational and Counselling Psychology department. The lectures will be presented in English. McGill says the lecture series focuses on topics of concern for “parents/guardians/grandparents in our fast-paced world and digital age” and gives parents a chance to hear from experts who are doing research in their respective fields. Here is list of the lectures:
April 3: Helping your child manage stress in a complex world
April 10: Improving sleep: A guaranteed method for improving school achievement and behaviour for children
April 17: Helping your child navigate and learn online in a time of Facebook and fake news
April 24: Introduction to gender, sex and sexuality: What to know to help your kids
May 1: Understanding neurodevelopmental conditions such as autism spectrum disorder and ADHD: What parents need to know The lectures take place on Tuesday evenings from 6:30-8:30 p.m. They’ll be held in the Jack Cram Auditorium, Room 129, at the Faculty of Education building, 3700 McTavish St. The cost is $75 to attend all five lectures, $50 for seniors.
