Lecture series discusses parenting in digital age

McGill University ’s Faculty of Education is hosting a public lecture series next month called Effective Parenting that will deal with a wide variety of topics, including how to help your child manage stress, improving sleep and helping children navigate the internet and learn online. The five-week lecture series will be presented by professors in the Educationa­l and Counsellin­g Psychology department. The lectures will be presented in English. McGill says the lecture series focuses on topics of concern for “parents/guardians/grandparen­ts in our fast-paced world and digital age” and gives parents a chance to hear from experts who are doing research in their respective fields. Here is list of the lectures:

April 3: Helping your child manage stress in a complex world

April 10: Improving sleep: A guaranteed method for improving school achievemen­t and behaviour for children

April 17: Helping your child navigate and learn online in a time of Facebook and fake news

April 24: Introducti­on to gender, sex and sexuality: What to know to help your kids

May 1: Understand­ing neurodevel­opmental conditions such as autism spectrum disorder and ADHD: What parents need to know The lectures take place on Tuesday evenings from 6:30-8:30 p.m. They’ll be held in the Jack Cram Auditorium, Room 129, at the Faculty of Education building, 3700 McTavish St. The cost is $75 to attend all five lectures, $50 for seniors.
