1981: René Angélil remortgages his home to help finance Dion’s first album.
1982: Wins top prize at the Yamaha World Popular Song Festival in Tokyo.
1984: Sings for Pope John Paul II at the Olympic Stadium for an audience of 65,000.
1988: Wins the Eurovision song contest, representing Switzerland.
1990: Releases her first English album, Unison.
1991: Duets with Peabo Bryson on the title song for the Disney film Beauty and the Beast, which goes on to win Oscar and Grammy awards.
1994: Marries Angélil at Notre-Dame Basilica.
1995: Releases D’eux, which is the bestselling Frenchlanguage album ever and is considered by many to be Dion’s finest album.
1997: Releases My Heart Will Go On, the theme song from Titanic, which goes on to win the Oscar for best song.
2001: Dion’s son RenéCharles is born.
2003: The residency A New Day begins at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas.
