The Pointe-Claire library is about to get a spring makeover.

The city announced major upgrades of its Central Library, which will take place from early April to mid-May. The city said the makeover will give a “more modern look for the library, welcoming and inviting reading areas will be created for residents of all ages.”

The first phase of work, set for early April, will see computers near the circulation desk moved. “A more accessible information desk will be added to make meetings with the library team more dynamic,” the city said in a statement.

The second phase in mid-April phase will see ergonomic tables with integrated lighting and power outlets added in the reading room.

(The tables will be made from wood reclaimed from efforts to fight against the Emerald Ash Borer insect).

The library’s magazine section will also get a facelift. “An inviting area — including modern furnishings, an electric fireplace, and reorganized furniture — will be created in the magazine section,” the city said.

Also, the library ’s mystery novel collection will be moved.

The final phase, from mid-April to mid-May, will see the library restrooms completely renovated.

The city said library will remain open while work is in progress.

The overall cost for this project is $219,000, confirmed city hall spokesman Marie-Pier PaquetteSéguin.

The Pointe-Claire Central Library is located at 100 DouglasShand Ave., next to City Hall, and across from John Rennie High School.
