The town of Notre-Dame-del’Île-Perrot announced the completion of work to stabilize an embankment that was a potential risk for a landslide.

The embankment is in the area of rue Simone-de Beauvoir and 150th Ave.

Mayor Danie Deschênes said the project was headed by the Ministry of Public Security.

She said the heavy landscape work was done ahead of schedule. “We were in advance because the subcontractor agreed to work extra hours and longer hours every day … All that’s left to do is the vegetation process.

“This is great news for area residents,” added Deschênes. “It’s good news because our citizens will not have to endure this during the summer. These are major, major rocks and trucks. Very invasive.”

Deschênes said the work had to be done. “It’s the Public Security Ministry that froze the land; you could not build there because it was potentially landslide problem. They wanted to make sure it was secure.”

“Nothing happened there, but there was danger. A few years ago, an area was built there with big houses, major houses, and so it had impact on the level of weight put on the land. It wasn’t sinking but we had to (take precautions).

The town paid for about a quarter of the $5-million project, while the province picked up the rest.

“I want to thank all residents of the affected areas for their patience and understanding during the work and also since the imposition of the construction ban,” Deschênes said.
