The diamond ring has been reunited with its owner.

Early last month, Montreal Police from Station 5 in Pointe-Claire released information about a diamond ring which had been turned into the station. For almost one year, officers tried to track down the owner, but to no avail.

After a story about the ring was published in the West Island Gazette, April 7, the floodgates opened.

It would appear there are a significant number of people who have lost diamond rings in PointeClaire.

Montreal Police Const. Catherine Legault said the station was contacted by around 60 people who had lost rings.

A young woman contacted the station April 23 and was able to describe the ring in detail — it was very particular in appearance — and pinpoint the exact location it was lost. She did not want to be interviewed, but Legault said she was relieved to have her ring back.

CONVENIENCE STORE HOLDUP

A Couche-Tard in Île-Bizard was robbed after the suspect told the cashier that he was in danger of being shot, April 18.

Montreal Police Const. Daniel Maheu from Station 3 said the police received the 911 call just after 2 a.m.

The employee said he buzzed in a woman who came up to the cash and asked to see the selection of lottery tickets because she wanted to buy a ticket for her mother. The victim said he didn’t have the black folder which holds the tickets at which point the suspect said there were four armed men outside the store who would shoot if the victim didn’t give her the money from the cash register.

The victim emptied the cash register. The suspect fled on foot. The victim told police he did not see any armed men outside the store.

HOMEOWNERS BEWARE

There have been a number of break-ins and attempted breakins in Station 3 territory, including Île-Bizard and Pierrefonds, over the last month. Police are asking homeowners to be vigilant and to call 911 if they see anything suspicious.
