Dutoit could lose Order; new recipients named

- MARIAN SCOTT

Montreal’s executive committee has approved this year’s recipients of the Order of Montreal.

They include medical researcher Michel Chrétien, Olympic leader Richard Pound and Louise Roy, who in the 1980s and 1990s headed what is now the Société de transport de Montréal.

The city is also taking steps to strip Charles Dutoit, former artistic director of the Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal (OSM), of the Order of Montreal.

In February, Mayor Valérie Plante asked the body responsible for administering the Order of Montreal to look into how to do so.

Dutoit stepped down in January as artistic director and principal conductor of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, based in London, after several women came forward alleging they were victims of sexual misconduct by him.

Dutoit was named a Great Montrealer in 1982 and was given the title of commander of the Order of Montreal in 2016.
