HEC to add pizzazz downtown
Re: “St. Patrick’s ‘best-kept secret’ may disappear” (Montreal Gazette, May 14)
The sale of land belonging to St. Patrick’s Basilica to HEC, along with the demolition of additional buildings fronting Beaver Hall Hill, will contribute to the rejuvenation of this wonderful part of town, which now is a hidden secret. The new building would take into account and renovate the beautiful park-like steps up to the basilica building itself.
The university building will house courses for business people from the surrounding office towers.
Université de Montréal is to be congratulated for finally acknowledging where they should be, in downtown Montreal.
What is lost? The site now is seldom used because it is ugly and full of random stones that supposedly have something to do with the foundation of a building demolished in the 1970s.
With the new university building, thousands of students will use the remaining park leading up to St. Patrick’s, bringing life to the whole area.
Montreal is finally finding its pizzazz again!
