Six weeks of road work expected
The city of Pointe-Claire is set to begin the final phase of the reconstruction of Cartier Ave.
The construction work near the Pointe-Claire Village began last year, but was never completed.
The city of Pointe-Claire was left scrambling last November when the original contractor filed for bankruptcy with the construction job only about two-thirds finished. Another firm was quickly found to complete much of the $4.6 million redevelopment project, which originally was supposed to be finished by the end of October.
The latest phase of work resumed on Tuesday at the northern section of Cartier Ave., at the intersection of Salisbury Ave. and Highway 20.
The city said the remaining work consists of rebuilding the roadway and sidewalks and developing a bicycle path. There are also plans to install an electronic billboard.
The intersection of Salisbury and Cartier avenues will be closed to traffic, except for one southbound lane from Highway 20.
Northbound traffic will be redirected onto Ste-Claire, Waverley, and Lakeview Avenues, as well as St-Jean Blvd.
The city said this latest interruption will be in effect for approximately six weeks.
Work planned at the intersection of Highway 20 will take place during the night on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.
The city also noted that “completion of all phases may be affected by weather conditions.”
