Pierrefonds dives into $3.2M revamp of Versailles Pool
Versailles Pool in Pierrefonds will be getting a $3.2 million makeover this year.
The pool and chalet will be renovated this year and are scheduled to reopen in spring 2019.
Versailles Pool, at 13209 Desjardins St., will become a municipal pool open to the general public.
The borough noted that Association communautaire du parc Versailles “cancelled the usufruct it held on the land and the pool, at no cost to the Ville de Montréal, which becomes the owner.”
The borough also noted this marks the second time that a nonprofit organization transferred its aquatic facilities to the city “for the benefit of the entire population.”
Valleycrest Pool, near Grier Park in the western part of the borough, was inaugurated as a municipal pool in 2014. It cost $5.4 million to rebuild, $1.3 million over budget.
Pierrefonds-Roxboro Mayor Jim Beis said adding a second municipal pool improves public accessibility to outdoor aquatic facilities.
“I am extremely proud of the construction of a second municipal pool for our citizens,” he said.
“The borough had an important need to improve the quality and accessibility of its aquatic facilities.”
The borough said the pool overhaul will bring it “up to standard.”
“To do so, the pool and paddling pool will be demolished and rebuilt. The chalet will be renovated and a new building will be built to house the concierge, technical premises, changing rooms and sanitary block.”
The borough of PierrefondsRoxboro recently announced it had awarded the lowest bidder, FARSRS Le Groupe St-Lambert, for the renovation project.
The bulk of the $3.2-million (plus taxes) renovation will be financed by the borough through its threeyear capital expenditure program. That will account for $2.3 million.
Another $900,000 will come in the form of grants from the Montreal Aquatic Program, the Municipalité amie des aînés (MADA) program and the Support Program for the Development of the Rivière des Prairies.
The Pierrefonds-Roxboro borough also received a $97,466 grant from the city of Montreal for the construction of a pergola and the purchase of a lift and water stairs for the Versailles pool.
