A CRAFTY GUIDE: FIVE QUEBEC BEERS TO TRY

-

Five Quebec craft beers to try at the 25th Mondiale de la bière, as selected by Marilou Caty, director of the MBière School of Beerology and project manager of Mondial de la bière:

Floréal (4.5%)

Lemon and camomile Witbier. A white beer with a smooth taste of fruit, herbs and oatmeal cookies. Lemony and peppery finish. Brasserie Générale, Québec (Québec)

Acidula Framboise (5.2%)

Wheat beer, slightly acidulated with raspberries. MonsRegius bières artisanales, St-Bruno-de-Montarville (Montérégie)

Irish Red Ale (4.3%)

Light and soft Irish Red Ale, very easy to drink. It is distinguished by its notes of grilled biscotti and subtle grassy hops. Microbrasserie Coaticook, Coaticook (Cantons-de-l’Est)

Bave de troll I.P.A. (6.2%)

Holds a variety of citrus, watermelon and tropical fruit aromas. Domaine Berthiaume, St-Jean-sur-Richelieu (Montérégie)

Stout à la camerise (5.8%)

Opaque black beer. The nose is tickled by the roasted beans and hardly notices the haskap berry (camerise) at first. The fruit’s tartness is much more obvious to the mouth. In the end, the haskap berry releases its scent for a most interesting finale. Microbrasserie Riverbend, Alma (Saguenay—Lac-St-Jean)
