Local playwright’s comedy opens at Montreal Fringe Festival
The city of Beaconsfield is asking residents to make an effort to conserve on water usage this summer.
The city recently circulated a brochure to residents that encourages them to reduce their general water consumption.
“Although the per capita consumption has decreased in Beaconsfield over the past five years, average consumption remains higher than that of Canada,” the city said.
From 2013 to 2017, water consumption of Beaconsfield residents decreased to 231 from 246 litres per person per day.
While that is progress, the figure is still above the Canadian average of 222 litres.
Beaconsfield Mayor Georges Bourelle said some residents may pay higher amounts depending on their needs for using water. For example, people with backyard pools and sprinkler systems can expect to pay above the average.
In an effort to help residents reduce their water consumption, the city is offering WaterSense certified kits, including a facet aerator and a shower head that reduce consumption by 40 per cent.
The kits are available to residents at city hall for $10, plus taxes.
Bourelle said the water kits are an easy way to reduce water consumption and also lower your annual water bill.
The city also encourages residents to inspect their plumbing, watering systems and appliances to detect abnormal consumption.
Bourelle said residents tend to use their sprinklers and garden hoses more during extended dry spells during the summer.
“Obviously people like to take care of their gardens and lawns in Beaconsfield, so it’s important to find ways to efficiently reduce our water consumption.
“Every drop counts,” he said.
