Construction, tourism events will create widespread weekend traffic headaches

-

If you were planning to try to drive around the city this weekend, Quebec’s Ministry of Transportation and the city of Montreal are advising you to think again. Multiple ongoing construction projects, plus several major tourism events in the city will create some traffic headaches.

Here are some road closures to take into account as you are planning your weekend outings:

Peel St. between Ste-Catherine ■

Crescent St. between Ste-Cath■ erine St. W. and Sherbrooke St. W. will be closed for Grand Prix festivities until Sunday, June 10 at 6 p.m.

De Maisonneuve Blvd. W. will be ■ closed between Bishop St. and de la Montagne until Sunday, June 10 at 8 a.m. (also for Grand Prix festivities)

Camillien-Houde Way and ■

Remembrance Rd. are closed to through traffic for a pilot project by the city of Montreal until Oct. 31. For access to Mount-Royal Park, vehicles can access the Beaver Lake parking lot from the west via Remembrance Rd., or the Smith House parking lot from the east via Camillien-Houde Way. The Camillien-Houde entrance to the Notre Dame des Neiges Cemetery is closed, so use the main entrance at 4601 Côte-desNeiges Road or the other one on Decelles Ave. Also, the south gate entrance to the Mount Royal Cemetery from Remembrance Rd. is closed for the duration of the pilot project, until Oct. 31. Use the main entrance in Outremont at 1297 Chemin de la Fôret.

The city of Montreal strongly recommends public transit for access to Les Francos, the Mondial de la bière and the Grand Prix du Canada sites.
