Plates and anglos: a licence to offend

Re: “Vanity plates exempt from language charter” (Montreal Gazette, July 6)

-

The Liberal government adopted the law with a provision that vanity plates would have to respect Quebec’s Charter of the French Language. It is only because the SAAQ obtained a legal opinion saying that part of the law can’t be enforced that English and other languages will be allowed.

Few things are less important than vanity plates, but the actions of the government show contempt for English speakers, notwithstanding the Premier Philippe Couillard’s profession of inclusion while pleading for our support.

Sadly, anglophones are to be second-class citizens in Quebec, no matter who is in power. We have had no representation since the demise of the Equality Party.
