Pizza war is in bad taste
Re: “Chez Fourna caught in underground pizza war” (Montreal Gazette, July 20) When I read about the plight of Mohammad Eid in a Ste-Catherine St. food court, I said to myself, “This even makes the OQLF look rational!”
I can see that I am not the only Montrealer who is thoroughly disgusted.
I simply cannot believe that anyone living in our ubercosmopolitan city, let alone someone in the restaurant/ food-court business, would fail to understand and respect the fact that Lebanese “pizza” is simply referred to by some as “pizza,” due to the round shape.
Other than that, there are no similarities, either with the toppings, dough, spices or the manner in which they are prepared.
I was bowled over by Eid’s industrious attempt to modify his menu in order to appease the food court’s management, in an effort to keep his nine-year-old business and livelihood open. However, even that should not have been necessary.
There is plenty of room in our city, renowned for its multicultural food choices, for any and all types of cuisine.
The demands placed upon Eid are unpalatable to say the least, and I would assume by this point, the managers of the Carrefour Industrielle Alliance food court must have a very bad taste in their mouth after this outrageous situation has gone public.
Shame on them!
