PQ pokes some fun at itself in new ad campaign

-

The Parti Québécois has challenges to overcome, but is also able to surprise, says the political party’s latest humour-themed ad campaign.

“What’s the difference between a péquiste and a dentist? There aren’t any! Both are struggling, but are working for your well-being,” is one of the slogans Quebecers will soon be able to read on billboards. Similar slogans can already be found online on the separatist party’s digital platforms.

Others include: “What is blue and white and bounces all the time? The PQ,” and “What’s the difference between the PQ and your internet connection? The PQ never lets go.”

The new ads, which will also be played on radio stations across the province ahead of the Oct. 1 provincial elections, are self-described as “amusing and irreverent.”

“It’s a summer campaign that is light and funny,” said PQ MNA Pascal Bérubé.

He said he believes that Quebecers love comedy and wish that political discourse was more accessible.

Bérubé said, however, that the campaign isn’t just to please.

“We’re able to laugh at ourselves but also have an important message to share with Quebecers: the ideas, the projects we support and our fantastic team.”

The MNA says that since its launch, the campaign has been well received on social media.

“This self-deprecation shows that we have humility,” he said. “We know that we have challenges to overcome, and address this frankly. ... This shows that our ability to surprise is still there, and that we will continue to do things differently.” Presse Canadienne
