Vaudreuil-Dorion was ranked the fourth best city in Canada to raise children, according to MoneySense, an online Canadian personal finance and lifestyle magazine. It marks the second consecutive year that Vaudreuil-Dorion made the list. In 2017, it was ranked Canada’s 15th best city for raising children. In the Best Places to Raise Kids category, MoneySense says it takes into account the percentage of the population aged 15 and under, which is 23 per cent in VaudreuilDorion, as well as access to daycares. MoneySense has been publishing “Canada’s Best Places to Live” for 16 years. The annual report measures different aspects of Canadian cities. Ten criteria were analyzed: wealth and economy, access to property, population growth, property tax, mobility (transport), crime rate, climate, accessibility to health care, services offered and culture. The Best Places to Live category for New Canadians puts forward the low unemployment rate, affordable housing and proximity to the airport. Oakville, Ont., was ranked the No. 1 city to live in Canada. St-Bruno-de Montarville was the top-ranked city in Quebec. It ranked fourth overall among 415 Canadian cities. Vaudreuil-Dorion, with a population of almost 40,000, is ranked 58th among Canadian cities for quality of life. It ranks 13th overall among 103 Quebec cities on that list and is ranked 24th in Canada terms of welcoming newcomers. Vaudreuil-Dorion Mayor Guy Pilon said he was proud to see his city recognized for its overall quality of life.
