The electoral district of Marquette is one of four West Island ridings gearing up for the Quebec elections, Oct. 1. Here is a look at the riding by numbers:

Marquette is comprised of Lachine, Dorval and l’Île-Dorval. As a result of a change to the electoral map in 2011, Marquette lost a portion of LaSalle to the MargueriteBourgeoys riding.

The original electoral district was created in 1981 by merging portions of the Jacques-Cartier, Marguerite-Bourgeoys and Notre-Dame-de-Grace ridings. Marquette has been a Liberal stronghold since its inception, with Claude Dauphin serving from 1981 to 1994 and François Ouimet serving from 1994 to present.

Last month, Ouimet was told he would not be the Liberal candidate for the Oct. 1 elections. Instead, it would be former NHL hockey player Enrico Ciccone. The way the decision was handled was widely panned in the press.

The following numbers were compiled by Elections Québec from 2016 census data gathered by Statistics Canada.
