Champlain Bridge closure, marathon will cause woes

-

Transport Québec’s plan to close the inbound Champlain Bridge and the Montreal marathon will make driving more difficult around downtown, the southwestern part of the island and the east end this weekend.

The bridge will be completely closed to traffic headed toward Montreal on Sunday morning, Transport Québec announced in its weekly roundup of weekend road closures.

This Saturday and Sunday will also feature street closures on Montreal Island for the Oasis International Marathon de Montréal.

The Champlain Bridge closure, which also entails the closure of Highway 15 North between Route 132 and the Turcot Interchange, will last from 7 a.m. to noon on Sunday.

As well, Highway 15 North will be completely closed from the Exit 58 at Highway 10 West to the Turcot Interchange from 11:59 p.m. on Friday to 5 a.m. on Monday.

The ramp from Highway 13 South to Highway 40 West will be closed from 11:59 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Sunday. As well, two of the three lanes on the Highway 40 West service road will be closed during the same period.

Meanwhile, downtown, Griffintown and the Sud- Ouest borough will see several streets closed on Sunday because of the marathon. Most will reopen by late morning or noon.

Of note, René-Lévesque Blvd. will be closed between St-Urbain and Berri Sts. starting at 3:30 a.m. on Sunday morning until 12:30 p.m. for eastbound traffic and until 2:30 p.m. for westbound traffic.

St-Urbain St. between RenéLévesque and Viger Ave. will be closed from 6:45 a.m. to noon on Sunday.

Parts of streets such as St-Patrick St., Wellington St., Monk Blvd. and Centre St. will be closed Sunday morning.

In the east end, several road closings are announced around the Botanical Garden and Parc La Fontaine.

St-Joseph Blvd. will be closed between Garnier St. and Pie-IX Blvd. from 7:15 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday.

Pie-IX will be closed from Rosemont Blvd. to Sherbrooke St. E. from 7:15 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

In Old Montreal, De la Commune will be closed between Place Jacques-Cartier and Prince St. starting at 6:45 a.m. on Sunday until 9:15 a.m., while the street will be closed between Smith and Duke Sts. until 11:40 a.m.
