SOFIA, Jean

1929 - 2018

On September 13, 2018, Mr. Jean Sofia passed away at age 89. He was married for 62 years to the late Mrs. Monique Hébert. Born in Montreal, he graduated from the University of Montreal. His career was a 41-year long association with Shell Canada, beginning at the research laboratory in East Montreal but taking him for the bulk of which at the company’s main offices in Place Ville-Marie, in a succession of positions around technical sales and consulting. During his long career, he also dedicated himself to professional societies such as the SAE and the ASLE, which he served in a number of officer posts. He and his wife were keen golfers and members of the Beloeil Gold Club for close to 50 years, on the Board of Directors of which he served in various capacities through the years. In retirement, they spent winters in Florida, in pursuit of year-round golfing. They were both great fans of hockey and of the Montreal Canadiens. He is survived by sons Jean-Marc and Michel (Suzanne Caulfield); grandchildren Tara, Drew, Samantha, and Sydney; sister Marcelle Poirier; nephews Claude, Paul, Guy, Raymond, and Michel; as well as other relatives and many friends and colleagues.
