WHERE ARE MONTREAL’S INDIE ROCKERS NOW?
Arcade Fire
On a break following their Everything Now world tour. The band members are keeping busy: Richard Reed Parry just released his solo album Quiet River of Dust; while Will Butler collaborated on the single Sun Comes Up with American electronic duo The Knocks.
Wolf Parade
Back in the saddle following a hiatus from 2011-2016. Released album Cry Cry Cry in 2017 and have more on the way. Band member Spencer Krug’s last solo album as Moonface, This One’s for the Dancer & This One’s for the Dancer’s Bouquet, was released this week. Boeckner is working on new music with his other band, Operators.
The Dears
The group’s latest release, Times Infinity Volume Two, came out in 2017. Fourth album Missiles was released on vinyl for the first time in October.
Young Galaxy
Following Snow Leopard EP in September, the group called it a day … for now. “Young Galaxy will go on hiatus so that we can go inside, stir it up and regenerate. There will be many more Ramsay and McCandless blooms but they will have new and varied origins, conduits, and presentations. We both wish to focus on solo work, interdisciplinary collaborations, and ways of presenting content beyond prescribed music industry limitations,” they said in a statement.
Plants and Animals
The group celebrated 10 years since the release of Parc Avenue with a residency at Le Ministère and a rerelease with eight previously unheard outtakes. Frontman Warren Spicer produced some of the new album by La Force (Ariel Engle from Broken Social Scene) and is touring as part of her band.
